A Great Start to the Dubai Season

Wednesday 19th of November 2014

The season in the Emirates is now well underway and I'm pleased to say that I have had a great start. I've been riding for many different trainers and thankfully I rewarded their faith with a few winners. In the opening fortnight I have had 48 rides, 10 of which have won and a further 17 have been placed so overall I have been delighted with the start so far and I just sit one off the lead which is held by my good friend Tadhg O'Shea.

The season opened at Jebel Ali and it was a good opening day for me. I started the day off being bridesmaid, finishing a close second on Street Act, thankfully I soon went one better in the second race, winning on Need To Know for the boss Ali Rashid Al Raithe. I went on to finish second on another two occasions but I couldn't have been more happier with the start I had made.

The following day we raced at Sharjah. For those of you that didn't know, the racing in the Emirates consists of both thoroughbred & arabian bred horses, with many of the races at Sharjah being for arabians. The day at Sharjah was great for me as I was lucky enough to ride a treble on the card. Latifa Princess for Hardy Hotger, Es Muzahim for Saifauin Deeb and Af Farooq for Ibrahim Al Hadrami all winning to make it a great day at the office.

After that Saturday at Sharjah, we had no racing until the following Thursday at Meydan where I managed to keep the winning run going with Street Act going one better than at Jebel Ali, it's always nice to keep such a run going as any sportsman will tell you that good positive results and wins breeds confidence.

After that it was on to Al Ain the following day and after a couple of seconds I managed to get one on the score sheet with Majd Abu Dhabi obliging, giving me another winner for Hardy Hotger.

On the Saturday the racing was back at Sharjah and thankfully I managed to grab another winner, this time it was for Helal Al Alani and his Ammadani in one of the arab races.

This weekend the racing was at Jebel Ali, Sharjah & Abu Dhabi. On Friday at Jebel Ali I won the day's feature race on Encipher for Rachid which was great as Rachid and I have shared some great success over the years that I have been coming to the UAE. It was back to Sharjah on Saturday and again I managed to grab a winner, this time it was for Helal Al Alawi on his Ameer Al Sraya and we won quite nicely too. Yesterday we were racing at Abu Dhabi and again I managed to come away with a winner, Girl Power showing a very willing attitude to bring home the prize. I tried to make all on Saeed Hadher Al Mazrouei's grey and having been headed just over a furlong out, she really proved a willing partner as she battled back in resolute fashion for us to win close home.

I will try to keep you all updated with how things are going over here.

All the best
